The Genesis Oncology Trust is a registered charity established by Genesis Energy in 2002. It represented a major community project for the benefit of all New Zealanders in the fight against cancer.
Between 2002 and 2015 Genesis Energy endowed the trust with more than $8 million, and Genesis Energy customers contributed a further $11 million via their monthly energy bills. Running costs of the Trust were covered by Genesis Energy.
All donations from Genesis Energy customers have been applied to the fight against cancer; more than $11.2 million to date. The funds endowed by Genesis Energy were invested and income from the considerable capital sum accrued now covers Trust overheads and a portion of the research funding for current and future projects.
Donations are now received from the public at large and every dollar donated is applied to the work of the Trust.
The Trust is comprised of six trustees representing the medical, strategic and business aspects of Oncology. The key objectives of the Trust are the promotion of research and training in cancer-control and palliative care.
